"...the remark I heard years ago from theologian Judith Plaskow, in response to someone's discomfort with new prayers reformed to eliminate male god language.

'Those aren't the prayers I grew up with,' the woman said, 'I don't feel comfortable with them.'

'We're not the generation of Jews that gets to feel comfortable,' Plaskow responded. 'We're the generation that gets to create a tradition so the next generation grows up in it, and for them it will be the authentic tradition and they will feel comfortable.'"
